About PrasiniteHide

Name:
From the Ancient Greek word πράσινος (prásinos), i.e. green leek, in allusion to the green color of the rock.
In the older European/German geological and petrographic literature this name is commonly used to indicate a basaltic metamorphic rock (metabasalt) usually consisting of ocellar albite, surrounded by a green matrix composed of almost equal amounts of actinolite, chlorite and epidote.

It is fine-grained and massive, in contrast to its schistose equivalent, greenschist.
