Described in 1881 by W.C. Brøgger as a new mineral from a granite pegmatite (Aslaktaket ?) at Ånnerød, near Moss, Norway, and discredited in 1906 by Brøgger. He showed that it was an oriented intergrowth of samarskite-(Y) and columbite.
