'Helenite' is an unofficial name.
It is mostly used to describe a green artificial glass purportedly made from ash taken from the 1980 volcanic eruption at Mt St Helens in Washington State, USA, see Mt St Helens Stone.
Please note this material is artificial, the green glass is NOT natural.
The name has also been used in the past to describe a totally different material, a natural parrafin wax similar to ozocerite, but elastic like natural rubber. Yellow; sp gr, 0.915. It occurs at Ropa in Galicia.
Use of this name should be avoided.
