Name:
Named in 1872 by George J. Brush in honor of William Theodore Roepper [March 7, 1810 Peilau, Lower Silesia, Germany [now Poland] - March 11, 1880 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA] professor of mineralogy and geology and curator of mineralogy at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, noted researcher of Franklin-Ogdensburg, New Jersey minerals and who first described the species. Roepper also discovered the zinc deposits in the Saucon Valley of Pennsylvania.
A manganoan, zincian fayalite. Black slightly rounded to very rounded crystals, also black cleavages.
