Name:
For the Naegi pegmatite district, Japan, from where it was first described.
Greenish grey to greenish brown anhedral grains, crude crystals or spheroidal aggregates. Originally erroneously described as a new U-Th-silicate, without having analyzed for Zr, but within a year it was found to be in fact a Y-Th-U-rich variety of zircon (or "cyrtolite"), completely metamict (X-ray amorphous). The content of REE oxides is roughly 5 < 9 wt%, and of U and Th oxides each roughly 2 < 3 wt%.
