Formula:
Cu6[Cu4(Fe,Zn)2]Sb4S13
Simplified Chinese synonym of:
Although generally translated as freibergite in Chinese dictionaries and also by Chinese authors, this name does not refer to true freibergite, but to silver-rich tetrahedrite. For example, Li (1991) gives the formula (Cu,Ag)10(Fe,Zn,Hg)2(Sb,As)4S13 for the mineral 银黝铜矿, which clearly represents an argentiferous tetrahedrite, but he refers to this phase as freibergite both in the text and in the English abstract.
There is some evidence that "freibergite" is considered by many Chinese authors as a name given to silver-rich tetrahedrite, which it isn't. Consequently, any report of freibergite by Chinese authors should be considered as questionable unless analytical data are provided that confirm the identity.
The Chinese name of true freibergite (i.e. the silver-dominant phase) is 黝锑银矿.
