Name:
Name given by Jens Esmark to a manganoan wollastonite found in a Marble Quarry at Gjellebekk, Lier, Buskerud, Norway. (Cf Hausmann (1811) and Goldschmidt (1911). Esmark thought it to be a kind of tremolite, but Hisinger, who visited the locality in 1821, made a chemical analysis (Hisinger 1824) and concluded that it was a mineral close to tafelspath (of Stütz) (a synonym of wollastonite). However, the analysis was made on material contaminated by quartz and calcite. According to Goldschmidt (1911), the mineral was later, based on Hisingers analysis, suggested to be identical with aedelforsite (of Retzius). Later Forchhammer (1864) made a new analysis, and concluded that it was a manganoan wollastonite.
