Name:
from the Greek 'παράλοξυς' for 'contrary to received opinion' because earlier views as to its formation were so contradictory: it was thought then that all feldspars were igneous not hydrothermal.
An obsolete name for flesh-coloured orthoclase (adularia) occurring in hydrothermal veins, originally described from the tin mines near Marienberg, Saxony, Germany by A. Breithaupt in 1866 (Berg. Hütt., xxv, 35. as 'Paradoxit')
