For the discovery locality near Qingtian, Zhejiang Province.
A lapidary material used for Chinese carvings. Some Qingtian Stones almost exclusively consist of pyrophyllite, or represent mixtures of pyrophyllite with andalusite, illite, sericite or cryptocrystalline quartz. Though, Qingtian Stones from some occurrences have been shown to consist largely of dickite, illite or sericite.
Depending on the occurrence, the colour of the material varies from light yellow to orange, brick red or purple, and green and blue varieties are known as well. It is often caused by microscopic inclusions of impurities such as dumortierite, hematite, ilmenite or bluish corundum.
