Name:
Described as a new species from Sukula Pegmatites, Tammela, Southern Finland Region, Finland and named sukulaite after the locality, by Vorma & Siivola (1967). Later Hogarth (1977) descredited it as a synomym of stannomicrolite.

According to the new nomenclature of the pyrochlore supergroup (Atencio et al 2010),it is a synonym of oxystannomicrolite. The type specimen of the sukulaite (of Vorma & Siivola 1967) should be considered as the type specimen for oxystannomicrolite.
