Synonym:
A synonym of Hopeite
Hopeite crystals from Zimbabwe exhibit a zonal growth structure, the material of adjacent zones differing somewhat in properties but having an identical composition and X-ray diffraction patterns (Spencer, 1908).
So-called α-Hopeite was observed to have a higher specific gravity and birefringence than so-called β-Hopeite, with X = a, Y = c, and 2E ~ 58½°.
α-Hopeite and β-Hopeite differ by the orientation of one water molecule in the crystal structure (Herschke et al., 2004).
