About Unnamed (Ba-analogue of Calcioaravaipaite)Hide

Appears to be the Ba analogue of calcioaravaipaite.

White globular, fine-grained to fibrous aggregates with a pearly lustre. Only a few small micromount-sized specimens are known. Some samples show an association with usovite.
Described by Kolitsch (1997) very briefly as an unidentified Ba-Ca-Al-fluoride; later recognised as being the Ba analogue of calcioaravaipaite (Kolitsch et al. 2007).
Subsequently, further samples were identified and the mineral has been synthesised and its structure solved. Work is ongoing to describe the mineral as a new species (Kolitsch et al., in prep., 2010-2026).

The mineral from Russia, supposed to be BaCa2AlF9, occurs as intergrowths with fluorite aroud weberite grains, in a single fluoroaluminate segregation within aegirine-arfvedsonite aggregates; the presence/absence of OH and water in thiis phase could not be confirmed.
