Named in 1911 by Waldemar T. Schaller for the chemical composition: Natro- (sodian) and for the mineral's similarity to montebrasite. discredited as a mixture in 2007 by Andre M. Fransolet, F. Fontan, and Ph. de Parseval.
Discredited as a "mixture of an OH-rich amblygonite and lacroixite, with subordinate amounts of wardite" (Fransolet et al., 2007).
