Name:
For its occurrence at the Styrian Erzberg, Styria, Austria.
White to brown banded sinters, consisting of alternating thin layers of aragonite (white) and calcite (pale brownish), owing their colour to finely dispersed limonite. Sometimes used as a decorative stone.
Erzbergite formed as fillings of vertical fractures of different width, at temperatures between of ca. 0 to 10°C during warm periods between 285,000 and 1,000 years ago.
