Name:
For its first noted occurrence near Oberzeiring, Styria, Austria.
Described as a finely fibrous greenish-white or sky-blue calcareous sinter containing nickel from Zeiring (Oberzeiring), Styria, Austria. Has been supposed to be a nickel-bearing aragonite, a nickel-bearing strontianite or a strontium-bearing aragonite, but was later shown to be aragonite coloured by oriented inclusions of aurichalcite (Meixner, 1962).
Aragonite sinters with microscopic inclusions of aurichalcite, giving them a characteristically light blue colour. Sometimes used for carving.
