Prismatine from
Stakholmen quarry, Hassela, Nordanstig, Gävleborg County, Sweden

Locality type:Quarry
Classification
Species:Prismatine
Formula:(◻,Fe,Mg)(Mg,Al,Fe)5Al4Si2(Si,Al)2(B,Si,Al)(O,OH,F)22
Formation:Primary
Comments:Jonsson (1996) says "Prismatine occurs at Stakholmen as elongated, rough, prismatic crystals of a generally grey or greyish white colour, more rarely green or purplish grey. […] In most of the investigated specimens, prismatine is intimately intergrown in a medium- to coarse-grained white or colourless to light tan mass mainly composed of subhedral sheaves of white enstatite, white, sheafy talc and a light brownish phlogopitic mica. Dravite, quartz and plagioclase occur as slightly less common constituents of this assemblage. In some samples, a disequilibrium texture with prismatine being rimmed by dravite is apparent"
Habit:Elongated rough, prismatic crystals arranged in divering aggregates or subparallell bundles
Colour:Grey to greyish white
Luminescent properties:Yellow best under MW
Quality for species:Excellent - world class for species or very significant. (!!)
Abundance at site:Common
Confirmation
Validity:Believed Valid
Associated Minerals Based on Photo Data:
