There were 4 characteristics used in making the Chalcophanite identification. First is the tetragonal crystal habit, second is the elongated, columnar habit when you view any of the broken crystalized areas from the side, color is another, when seen as individual tiny, free standing crystals they are jet black and the last is the hardness, they are about 2.5 on the mohs scale. The other is that Mr Luetcke has collected a lot of Chalcophanite from Bisbee and has a number in his collection to compare. Concur in identification: Chet Lemanski.
