Comments:Confusion by later writers with smithsonite due to Shepard (1837) using the term "calamine", which could mean either mineral in general, but Shepard describes "calamine" as a zinc carbonate and uses the term "electric calamine" for material found elsewhere that he describes as a hydrous zinc silicate, clearly hemimorphite.
