Although this locality is the type locality for the mineral, it is believed that the actual type locality is the Wessels mine due to an error in labeling the type specimen. No subsequent specimens containing sturmanite or other minerals on the type specimen have been found since, similar material from Wessels was found from 5 pockets in the years 1978-1982.
