Comments:Foord et al. (1997) and Korzeb et al. (1997) made a determined effort to verify clarkeite from this locality and all specimens submitted to them did not contain clarkeite but were mixtures dominated by schoepite(Eugene Foord, personal communication, 1996). Previously, Frondel (1956) studied minerals from a wide variety of localities including many specimens from the Palermo #1 Pegmatite and he did not find clarkeite. Frondel(156) stated of clarkeite and its misidentifications: "Clarkeite is best identified by its X-ray powder pattern. It is indistinguishable (emphasis added) from the dark-brown types of oxidized uraninite..."
