References Bill Hamel Collection; The Sierra Nevada Mine lies within the same Revett-St. Regis quartzite host sequence & structural domain as the Bunker Hill & Page mines, where sphalerite is a principal sulfide & siderite a characteristic gangue of the Ag-Pb-Zn stage. USGS & IGS studies show that Coeur d’Alene-type veins formed from Cretaceous metamorphic-hydrothermal fluids along NW faults, producing galena ± sphalerite ± tetrahedrite with Fe-carbonate halos in the Revett quartzites. Given this identical host & vein style, & documented Zn production (50,000→100,000 lb) at Sierra Nevada, a reasonable interpretation is that its ores likewise contained sphalerite as the Zn phase & siderite as associated gangue, now partly oxidized near surface.
