Occurrences of wulfenite were first noted at both Bleiberg and the Nepomuk mine near Annaberg, Lower Austria (Born, 1772). The characterization of the mineral however (crystallography: Wulfen, 1785, chemistry: Klaproth, 1792) was carried out on material from Bleiberg.
