Scheerer (1845) mention colophonite from this mine. Colophonite is used for a coarsely granular variety of brown, yellow-orange or reddish garnet, mostly andradite. At the mine a 20 foot wide layer of colophonite was worked for flux used in the smalting process of the iron ore. It has later been showed that this colophonite layer does not consist of andradite/ garnet as thought but in fact vesuvianite (Neumann 1985).
