We've seen some excellent news for Team Linux over the past few weeks. We've only just learned that Zorin OS 18, an operating system specifically designed to welcome in Windows 10 escapees, hit 780,000 downloads from Windows machines in just a month. While we will likely never learn what percentage of those downloads stuck with it, it's still interesting to see how people are giving Linux a try.
Now, another Linux-based operating system is announcing a bountiful month. One of the best gaming Linux distros out there, Bazzite, has just posted that it served one petabyte (that's 1,000,000 GB) of ISO downloads in a single month, and things are looking sweet for the world of open-source software.
Bazzite celebrates one petabyte of ISO downloads in the last month
As spotted by Tom's Hardware, Bazzite has been enjoying a lot of downloads over the last month. If this is your first time hearing about it, Bazzite aims to take the same look and feel of SteamOS, but aims to serve the community instead of Valve. While SteamOS is based on Arch Linux, Bazzite uses Fedora at its core, which means it's not exactly like Valve's offering, but it is a great alternative.
It seems the internet agrees, as they downloaded one petabyte of Bazzite ISOs over the last 30 days. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell how many people went on to install Bazzite on their PC, and how many of them decided to stick with the operating system. However, much like with the Zorin OS 18 situation, it's at least a sign that people are growing curious over what's available to them.
Unlike the Zorin OS 18 situation, Bazzite didn't reveal how many of those downloads are from Windows machines. However, given how Windows has held onto the crown as the best gaming OS for decades now, I don't think it's too far-fetched to speculate that the majority of the downloads came from people who use Windows.
