William December ("Billy Dee") Williams Jr. was born in New York City .^[1] He is the son of Loretta Ann and William December Williams Sr. He has a twin sister.

In 1940 and 1950 Billy Dee was living with his parents and sister in the household of his grandmother, Annette Bodkin, in New York City. Annette was widowed and had been born in the British West Indies. Billy Dee's father was working as a cook in a restaurant.^[2]

Billy Dee married his third wife, Teruko Nakagami, in 1972 in California.^[3] As of 2021 they were still married. ^[4]
