Notables Project
Whitney Houston is Notable.

Whitney Houston was an American singer and actress known for her powerful, soulful vocals and vocal improvisation skills. She is the only artist to have had seven consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born August 9, 1963 in Newark New Jersey to John Russell Houston, Jr and Emily "Cissy" Drinkard.[1][2][3]

Whitney started singing as a young child in church. She sang as a background vocalist during high school, and soon started work as a model. At age 19, she was signed to Arista Records. She was an immediate chart-topping success and was one of the best-selling female vocalists of all time.[3]

Whitney gained her first acting role in 1992's "The Bodyguard," and her single from the movie, "I Will Always Love You," became the best-selling physical single by a woman in music history.[3]

Whitney married R&B singer Bobby Brown July 18, 1992.[1] They had one daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and divorced in 2007. Whitney and Bobby's relationship was tumultuous and often violent.[3]

Whitney struggled with drug use throughout her life. On February 11, 2012, she accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors.[3] She is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.[4]
