Stanley (Stan) Cullis was born in 1916 in Ellesmere Port. He was the son of William Cullis and Elizabeth Walters [1].

Stan became a very successful footballer with Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) between 1934 and 1947. He also played as a guest for Gillingham FC during WWII. Stan played for the FA 'England' team on twelve occasions.

Stan then had major successes as the manager of Wolves from 1948 to 1964, winning competitions such as -

Stan then managed Birmingham City from 1965 to 1970.
