Putnisite

Purple putnisite with tan gypsum and quartz. Photo width 11mm. This is the second reported locality for putnisite, around 100km from the type locality.

A couple of purple putnisite patches are clearly visible, there are several more which requires magnification. According to the South Australian Museum the bluey-green stuff is an amorphous cr material, although it would not surprise me if the minor light green material is a secondary nickel species. A single very tiny deep purple orthorhombic crystal of the extremely rare mineral putnisite, on a matrix of colourless quartz crystals and black actinolite, with some yellow aragonite staining. Specimen gifted to me by Joel Williams on 19 June, 2026. See annotations. The micromount specimen is extremely tiny. Ex. Joel Williams collection.
