Visual Capitalist FAQ

While we have access to some proprietary data, the vast majority of our graphics rely on the many quality public sources of data available. These include government entities (i.e. U.S. Census data, FRED, etc.), intergovernmental organizations (IMF, World Bank, etc.), or established thought leaders in their respective sectors (think tanks, non-profits, corporations).

We lean towards using these types of sources because publicly available data is verifiable, accessible, and transparent.

Our design team uses a range of tools and techniques, but Adobe Creative Cloud–especially Illustrator–are generally used to create the visuals that we publish. 

Visual Capitalist is independently owned and Jeff Desjardins (Founder, CEO, Editor-in-Chief) is a majority shareholder. Visual Capitalist generates revenue from ads, sponsored brand partnerships, licensing, and our premium service , VC+.

For individuals and small organizations (5 people or less, or <$1 million in revenue), we allow you to use our visuals in a variety of use cases for free.

These include personal and commercial use cases, such as: embedding our graphics in a newsletter, report, video, presentation, or on your website.

If you are not considered an individual or a small organization, or if you are seeking to make edits to the content (resize, translations, remove branding, etc.) you are required to license it for professional use.
