Soft Cell var en brittisk syntpopduo bildad i Leeds 1979 av Marc Almond och Dave Ball.

Duon Àr mest kÀnd för hitsingeln "Tainted Love", som blev etta pÄ UK Singles Chart 1981. LÄten var en cover pÄ Gloria Jones lÄt frÄn 1965.

Bakgrund

Soft Cell skivdebuterade med EP:n Mutant Moments pÄ hösten 1980, och slog igenom Äret dÀrpÄ med singeln "Tainted Love" och slÀppte debutalbumet Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret i november 1981. Musikaliskt inspirerades Soft Cell av northern soul, disco och glamrock. Texterna handlade mycket om sexlivets skuggsidor. Duon hade initialt en kort men framgÄngsrik karriÀr, och det blev officiellt att duon gick skilda vÀgar, strax innan albumet This Last Night in Sodom slÀpptes i mars 1984.[1]

SÄngaren Marc Almond startade en solokarriÀr, och fick hitsinglar igen med coverlÄtar. Först tillsammans med Gene Pitney och lÄten Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart, som blev etta pÄ den brttiska singellistan 1989, och sedan The Days of Pearly Spencer, som blev fyra 1992, producerad av Trevor Horn.

Dave Ball startade The Grid, och producerade bl.a. Kylie Minogues singel Breathe 1998.

Soft Cell Äterbildades 2001 för spelningar, och gav Äret dÀrpÄ ut studioalbumet Cruelty Without Beauty. I februari 2018 annonserade Soft Cell att de skulle göra sin sista spelning den 30 september 2018 pÄ O2-arenan i London.[2] Men duon Äterkom igen och slÀppte 2022 albumet Happiness Not Included, och fortsatte dÀrefter att turnera. Den sista spelningen Soft Cell gjorde var pÄ Rewind Festival i Henley-on-Thames den 16 augusti 2025.[3] Originalmedlemmen Dave Ball avled den 22 oktober 2025.[4][5][6][7][8]
