2024年も残り1週間となり，「メリークリスマス，そして，良いお年をお迎えください」が定番の挨拶となった。12月24日に臨時国会が閉会し，年末の懸案処理が進んだかが問われる。日本の「政治とカネ」の問題は政策活動費廃止など微調整に留まり，本質的改革には至っていない。2025年以降のアメリカ政治がその本質を示すと筆者は予測し，日本政治の限界を浮き彫りにする契機になると展望している。

2024（令和6）年も最後の1週間となった。「メリークリスマス，そして，良いお年をお迎えください」が，いまや日本でも定番となった季節のご挨拶である。

　昨日の12月24日（火）に日本では臨時国会（第216回（臨時会））が閉会した。文字通り，「良いお年をお過ごしください」ではなく，「良いお年をお迎えください」と言えるような年末の慌ただしい仕事（懸案事項）を片づけることができたであろうか。

　日本における「政治とカネ」の問題の本質（エッセンス）が何であるかは，おそらく2025年1月以降のアメリカが実に見事に実証してくれるに違いないと個人的には推測している。日本における「政治とカネ」の問題の議論は「政策活動費」廃止（2026年1月1日廃止）程度の「微調整」に対して，どれだけの時間とお金をつぎ込んだのだろうか。政治改革からは程遠く，情緒的で感情論の域にとどまっている。金に物を言わせるとは「こういう事だ」と痛いほどに分かるようなことをアメリカのトランプ政権は世界に対して見せつけてくれるだろう。

　日本の政治は「島国の論理」，所詮，市町村のローカル政治の延長線上の世界の議論であることに，アメリカ政治のダイナミズムに接することにより，私たちは否応なしに実感せざるを得なくなるだろうと来年を展望するにあたり自分なりに予想している。

Yesterday, on December 24 (Tuesday), Japan’s extraordinary Diet session (the 216th extraordinary session) came to a close. Were they able to address the year-end rush of pending issues in a manner that truly justifies the sentiment of “Have a Happy New Year” rather than simply “Spend the remaining year well”?

Personally, I suspect that starting in January 2025, the United States will vividly demonstrate the true essence of the “politics and money” problem that exists in Japan. How much time and money has Japan invested in discussions about the “politics and money” issue, only to arrive at minor adjustments, such as abolishing “policy activity funds”(Abolished on January 1, 2026)? Far from genuine political reform, these debates remain emotional and sentimental. The Trump administration in the U.S. is likely to show the world exactly what it means to let money talk in politics in a way that will be painfully clear to all.

Japanese politics, grounded in the “island nation logic,” is ultimately a continuation of discussions at the level of local municipal politics. However, I predict that as we encounter the dynamism of American politics next year, we will inevitably be forced to realize the contrast. This perspective shapes my outlook for the year ahead.
