A Word from the Author

My modest work This “I” Being Here and Now: The Metaphysics of Emptiness is neither an essay, nor a work of philosophy or thought, nor a scholarly study, nor a collection of aphorisms, nor a set of philosophical punch lines.

It is a volume that draws the reader into a most peculiar atmosphere.

It does not fit into any existing genre. If one must resort to existing terms, one can only call it a “metaphysical book.” Yet even that designation is insufficient.

When people encounter something unknown, they often feel that it cannot be adequately expressed in the words they already know. This book, too, aims at precisely such a reading experience.

Just as Kawabata Yasunari’s The Sound of the Mountain is a work that cannot be fully captured by the mere designation “novel,” I hope that this book, too, is one that lies a little beyond existing classifications. #philosophy
