No worries, as you can tell, I can be pretty tardy as well ^^” You might experience more interruptions this year, since I have final exams very soon. I hope I’ll be more consistent after that.

One of my recent favourites is Vinland Saga, which I’m a bit surprised you haven’t watched. It’s a serious, slow-paced story about redemption across various settings and with a lot of heart. It also has a very positive take on Christianity, which helped me to take my own faith more seriously a couple of years ago.

I have heard all kinds of takes about The Boy and the Heron from disappointing to phenomenal, which makes me really excited for it. Besides it there are still a few Miyazaki films I have yet to see (I think Totoro, Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises, but I might have missed one (edit: I missed Castle of Cagliostro, haha)).

Virgin Punk looked very interesting when it came out, I hope I’ll be able to watch it someday.

On the topic of Bach, do you listen to classical/baroque music? I love baroque and romantic music, though I'm embarrassed to say I haven't looked much beyond the surface. Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind recommendations.

For Dandadan; I thought it had good comedy, which isn't something I can say for a lot of its weekly shonen contemporaries, and it's cast play well off each other. Science Saru are competent in managing a production and it's animation is consistent and good looking throughout. I don't have a particularly strong opinion on either of these anime though, I found them both fine~good

It definitely experimented with a lot of visual ideas, but I thought a lot of things felt awkwardly implemented. Exposition specifically, had a lot of text remain on screen; or for the episode in Tengen's room, there were lot of non-diegetic visual representations that felt like they might have worked in the medium of manga, but felt out of place in an anime adaptation. Few odd examples of the director layering two scenes with reduced opacity that I found off putting. The shibuya arc felt a lot more satisfying as a payoff to what came before it, where the Culling Game feels like it's jumping in too fast and introducing a lot of new characters left and right.
Overall it had a fair amount of stuff I did like, I gave it a 6 after all.

Wow, that's amazing. So glad to hear. That's what really matter man.

Film studies? Seems like something right down your alley. I have honestly lost my passion for anime over the past few years, so I'm not keeping up with anything at all. But I'm sort of keen to dive into something again. You've anything for me?

I grew up watching basically every Ghost in the Shell adaptation that was around at the time since my dad loved it and had all the DVDs. My dad also had Star Blazers (aka Space Battleship Yamato) on VHS and we had tapes of other 70s shows he liked as a kid (from the "Force Five", the botched versions of the original shows that aired on US cartoon channels). I had also seen Akira, Ergo Proxy, and Cowboy Bebop, but that was the extent of it. It was a couple years ago that my friend showed me Evangelion, and because of that I understood there really was something special about Japanese animation. It was around a year ago that I actually started taking it seriously and exploring various franchises, etc. and so I made a MAL account. Thanks for the compliment.

Chihayafuru brims with passion and I really hope we can get a full adaptation someday. It might also have my favourite soundtrack of any anime.

I loved Skip and Loafer when it aired, but I honestly don't remember much. I've got to refresh my memory before I start the second season.

What modern anime do you like? :)

Hi Wyatt

I apologize for the delayed response, I responded to your post in the chat in your club. I have a very busy schedule and dont'get much time to come here anymore.

Just on your questions: Hira Hira Hihiru is in my opinion - and I don't say this lightly - the greatest work in the medium over the past 50 years.
It's an outstanding work deserving of the highest praise. You can find more info on it here: - https://vndb.org/v38429

On Umineko - it's complicated. Essentially, the manga provides an alternate ending to the visual novel - I consider both the visual novel and the manga as canon, so I am combining it. Many Japanese readers were against the direction which Umineko went in the visual novel and to some extent i can understand why. However, I feel that Umineko is a genuinely compelling work.

A commendable goal indeed 🧐 I wish you good luck!

Definitely let me know when your review is complete! I'd be more than happy to read it

I'm glad to see another Lazarus enjoyer as well! Such an underrated piece of media, especially here on MAL
