Abstract

A population of the Western Ghats squirrel,Funamhulus tristriatus Waterhouse, was studied for some group attributes. The density ranged between 2 and 4 individuals/ha, the pattern being irregular. The rate of persistence was very low and nearly 83 % of the squirrels marked and released disappeared from the population within 12 months. The sex ratio significantly favoured males. Males were heavier than females, but the difference was not statistically significant.
