Request to change original file photographer

[edit]

Hello! I'd like to request revision deletion of the original upload comment for https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SD25ChgoRegTeamFP.jpg.

The original upload comment inadvertently named the wrong person -- the picture was taken by Elisa Shoenberger, not Caroline.

Would it be possible to change it so that the file is reflected in the history?

Thank you! Wowandflutter7154 (talk) 16:30, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Wowandflutter7154: I fixed it for you in Special:Diff/1295249100. Please stop top posting, as it is considered bad netiquette and gets the conversation out of order.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 20:06, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request to create Campaign:wlf-ir — Wiki Loves Food 2026 in Iran

[edit]

Hello. We are organizing Wiki Loves Food 2026 in Iran, taking place from 1 to 30 November 2026.

Our upload links use campaign=wlf-ir, but Campaign:wlf-ir does not exist, so UploadWizard displays a campaign-not-found error. Could an administrator or Upload Wizard campaign editor please create the campaign using the proposed configuration below, adapting it if necessary?

The campaign should automatically add Category:Images from Wiki Loves Food 2026 in Iran. Individual food categories are supplied separately through the categories URL parameter in the upload links from our food list.

Hello. While testing a bug fix for the Commons Android app, 40 test images were accidentally uploaded from my account on 27 October 2026. They are generated test patterns with no educational value. As the uploader, I request their deletion under G7. Sorry for the trouble

Old versions of File:Plaque BIODIBAP de l'étang de la Plugstreet 14-18 Experience.jpg

[edit]

Hello. I am the uploader of File:Plaque BIODIBAP de l'étang de la Plugstreet 14-18 Experience.jpg. Could an administrator please delete the three old versions of this file, which are no longer needed:

  • 09:28, 21 October 2026 (2,804 × 1,747): first upload, superseded (still shows the date stamp).
  • 11:01, 21 October 2026 (2,689 × 1,675): identical to the current version, which restored it.
  • 10:33, 28 October 2026 (2,633 × 1,587): unsuccessful straightening, reverted.

Only the current version (23:07, 28 October 2026) should be kept. The file is not used anywhere yet. Thank you. Score Beethoven (talk) 06:16, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Government of Dubai Media Office

[edit]

Any idea if any images / videos / files of the Government of Dubai Media Office [1] ever have licensing that is okay for Wikimedia Commons?

For example, [2].

Pictures of naked 13 year olds are unacceptable aren't they? I have read the policy however comment sense says such images are illegal in many countries. Herby talk thyme 13:30, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Herbythyme: New research shows that even if they are legal where you live or where they were produced, w:CSAM says possession of them is illegal in the US up to and including 15 years old, so we can't host them (at least in New York and other states that have outlawed it). See w:New York v. Ferber for details, and also COM:CSAM. I apologize for any part I had in trying to improve such images that had been uploaded here.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:20, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
If there is consent form the person depicted and the parents and the pictures are not sexualizing the child, they are fine. But per our COM:PCP nearly all of there photos are deleted if they are not historical or published in a reputable medical journal or by a public authority. GPSLeo (talk) 16:25, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - I've deleted, blocked and reported to legal. They can deal with it. I wouldn't considered them sexualised but there was certainly no full consent. Herby talk thyme 16:33, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Without wishing, here, to advocate for (or against) any specific content, the correct answer to your question is it depends. See w:Internet Watch Foundation and Wikipedia (SFW), for example.
(Note also that the image in that case is non-free content on en.Wikipedia, not on Commons).
I certainly would not promise anyone that we have no "pictures of naked 13 year olds", not least in our medical or historic categories. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:34, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request a restoration of page of User:Armagan

[edit]

(originally posted on Commons:Kocsmafal, moved by Bencemac (talk))

Hello,

I would like to request a restoration of page User:Armagan.

This means the deletion was performed by an account that was later banned for sockpuppetry. The user Armagan / Armagant was a valuable contributor with many Hungarian-related files (villages, churches, monuments). His/her files are still present and in scope.

The user page itself served only to identify the author and is not out of scope if rewritten in a minimal, policy-compliant way. I also have copies of his/her images if needed.

Request: 1. Undelete User:Armagan or 2. Allow recreation with a short, policy-compliant intro: "Hungarian photographer, own work, Hungarian villages and cultural heritage"

Thank you.

Reference: Deletion log: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=delete&page=User:Armagan Block evidence: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Daphne_Lantier Voxfax (talk) 18:11, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion this was normal userpage and deletion was incorrect, so potentially I can restore it, but Armagan has not edited Commons more than 10 years, so currently restoring makes no sense as well. Taivo (talk) 09:59, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

CSDG4

[edit]

I'm just asking out of curiosity but wondering whether COM:G4 applies to a file uploaded prior to a similar file being deleted via a DR. G4 seems to apply (at least to me) to recreations of previously deleted content, i.e., a file re-uploaded after it was deleted via a DR. Would it also apply to the same file with a different file name uploaded prior to the DR close? It seems that would more of a COM:F1 issue. Either way the file ends up deleted, I guess; so, perhaps this is just wikt:splitting hairs. Even so, I'm curious all the same. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:07, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not an admin, but it would seem to me that it does. If the community has decided that a file should not be on Commons, that should apply to all copies of that file, regardless of if they were uploaded before or after the specific copy that was deleted. Requiring an additional deletion discussion simply because the file was uploaded before the specific copy that was discussed strikes me as being procedure for the sake of procedure. --Carnildo (talk) 00:43, 3 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your response. That kind of makes sense, but I also think in such a case the file probably would be better deleted for the same reasons given in the DR (if the same concerns apply); in other words, it could likely either be deleted per COM:F1 or COM:F4. In a prefect world, it seems all existing versions of the same file (even ones uploaded at different times by different uploaders under a different name) should be part of the same DR, but obviously it's not always easy to track stuff down. Anyway, once again, I'm just mainly asking out of curiosity; as long as the end result is the same, the reason for SD probably doesn't matter in the overall scheme of things. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:30, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Harassment by Von der Heydt Museum, Germany

[edit]

Hi, I uploaded two images of public domain works of art File:Kirchner - Women on the Street (Frauen auf der Straße) 1914.jpg and File:Marc-blue-black fox.jpg These artworks are unambiguously in the public domain in both the US and Germany: w:Ernst Ludwig Kirchner died in 1938 and w:Franz Marc in 1916. However the Von der Heydt Museum, where the artworks are located, is accusing me of "illegally downloading" the images and threatening legal action against me for using the images without 'permission'.

In their deletion request for the files ([1], [2]) the Museum says "The image file was illegally downloaded from a password-protected press site and published without the author's consent." However as the Internet Archive shows, I downloaded these images from a publicly accessible section of their website. Also, as far as I know I do not need the 'consent' or 'permission' of whomever took the photograph since they are faithful reproductions of a public domain two-dimensional work of art.

Additionally the Museum keeps vandalizing the file pages to remove source information. There are two account doing this: Heydt2026 and ~2026-57686-81 though there may be more sockpuppets.

Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if my understanding of the situation is incorrect. Surajr7 (talk) 20:43, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

COM:NLT would seem relevant here too. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:57, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Problems with Russty67

[edit]

Recently I've marked his uploadings for speedy deletion (for the reason COM:F10). He insulted me by calling me a Christianophobe (see: User talk:Russty67#File:George_Bridge.jpg), nominated my profile for deletion three times—labeling it a "fake"—and (see: Commons:Deletion requests/User:Yousiphh), on the third occasion, did so by creating a "sockpuppet" account - Bobby bookman. Please take appropriate measures. Yousiphh (talk) 21:06, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your bulk F10 nominations have no evident validity. This looks a lot like harrassment. You don't help your case by this sort of underhand posting to COM:AN - you are required to notify those you bring to this board. Why did you not? Andy Dingley (talk) 21:51, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
hi yes i know russty67 and the reast of his production team

Upload Wizard

[edit]

Upload Wizard appears to reject files that should be accepted under current Commons policy

Hello,

I have noticed what seems to be a recent change in the Upload Wizard. Files that were previously accepted are now being blocked during the upload process, even though Commons policy regarding copyright status does not appear to have changed.

Specifically, for files such as the following, the Upload Wizard does not provide a corresponding copyright status option, making it impossible to proceed with the upload using the appropriate PD license tag:

works that entered the public domain in their source country before the URAA restoration date; and works first published outside the United States more than 95 years ago.

As far as I am aware, Commons policy on such works has not changed. The issue therefore appears to be with the Upload Wizard's copyright questionnaire or validation logic rather than with Commons licensing policy itself.

Could someone please review whether a recent change has introduced overly restrictive checks? If this is unintended, it would be helpful if the Upload Wizard could be updated to allow uploads that remain permissible under current Commons policy.

Thank you. Y.haruo (talk) 06:46, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
